Flash Mob organised for Ibiza Rave

Flash Mob
Flash Mob
Friday, 12th June 2009
With the final Volume event of the year approaching, a surprise rave occurred today at 12.20 on Vanbrugh Paradise. 20 or so students burst out of Vanbrugh and danced Ibiza Rave style for a couple of minutes before dispersing.

Wearing lycra tights, bright legwarmers, UV colours and Converse, they recreated a night in Ziggy’s but in full daylight.

Despite selecting a usually busy moment of the day, not many students saw the wonderful display of colour and energy. Ravers, however, were undeterred, dancing enthusiastically.

It was an exciting preview into what promises to be one of the greatest Volume events of the year.

One raver, Tom McCarthy, commented: “I can’t believe we dance like that when we’re drunk. I’m knackered already. Come to Volume Week 8!”

Another student, Henri Ward, said: “Today was just a fantastic example of the kind of excitement that Ibiza Rave will provide not only for Vanbrugh students but for the entire student body.”

Unfortunately campus seemed pretty dead today - everyone's gone home.

It made it on to the Yorker, and is about to sell out. I'd say it's going pretty well for Vanbrugh JCRC!

shameless bias by the yorker. they should be disgusted with themselves. where is any coverage at all of any other campus event? independent news? rubbish. someone at the yorker has the ear of dani fill....

This is more coverage of the publicity stunt than the event itself. Otherwise other events probably would have been covered.

A few green eyed monsters commenting I think!
Maybe it's that Vanbrugh's Ibiza rave has more to offer than other events? Such as a live international dance act?
Ad maybe it's that Vanbrugh students are thinking out of the box when it comes to advertising?!
Boo hoo hoo Alcuin/Goodricke etc. Stop moaning and promote your events yourselves!

Well said Kate!

So what if Dani Fill does tell the Yorker what is going on! Surely the media is meant to report university events and other activites, and if someone is making their job easier then why not!!

Maybe it's just nice that The Yorker care what is going on within the University however small or trivial it may seem rather than turning their nose up at it instantly!

Exactly - this piece wasn't about the event but was a very small piece on an interesting marketing style. If you guys hadn't commented so much on it, other people wouldn't have noticed it as much... And it's up to the people who are in charge of events to advertise: I'm quite confident that The Yorker aren't in love with Vanbrugh over any other college!

Also - they put up an article about the NUS Awards going to Nouse after an identical article had gone up on Nouse: even if there is personal bias, they're still an organisation who provide news for people!

As long as the Yorker editors don't start posting lenghty monologues I, and others I'm sure, will be very, very happy.

i watched this publicity stunt and thought it was a fail. Anything about the events from the weekend... Goodricke Jailbreak or Das sexy sexy German Disco? Thought not. Well, Goodricke Jailbreak was a massive success but if its not a flop then you dont want to know, do you?

Can't say I've ever read a story on a failed event on The Yorker. It's like people aren't even reading the article: it's clearly about the stunt and not directly about the event. Besides, if you're not promoting your event in every way you can think of then you're failing as a P&P or Ents officer. Quit whining and tell them about your events in future?

I would suggest getting one of the Goodricke Jailbreak organisers to contact the Yorker news editors?

Also, there was a perfectly good hitch to Amsterdam over the weekend. I'm sure that a news piece on that will be going up soon because RAG generally talk to the media..?

Look you muppets!!!

Again, this article is about the promotion of the event and it talks about Vanbrugh's innovativeness when it comes to advertising.

For the jailbreak and the rag hitch all I saw was the same old posters and facebook group - i.e. NOT news worthy.

Once again, stop moaning! (And buy your tickets!)

err i cant say im over the moon about comments on here by one individual! The flash mob was a news worthy event and good for you for doing it... but please dont take this oppurtunity to slag off other ents reps and the work we do.. we havent even commented on here! Im a goodricke ents rep and we have had some gimmicks/publicity stunts of our own- if they didnt get into the yorker, fair enough. Its not particularly dificult to book a dance act and organise a flash mob.. and its certainly not anything we would opt for. its not THAT innovative, so off your high horse please.
