Cameron steps up to be UK’s Prime Minister

cam
Tuesday, 11th May 2010
As of half eight tonight, Conservative party leader David Cameron became Great Britain’s Prime Minister after the resignation of Labour party leader and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

After formally accepting the Queen’s request to form a government at Buckingham Palace, Cameron travelled with his wife Samantha to 10 Downing Street and made his first official speech to the mass of reporters gathered there.

His appointment as Prime Minister marks the beginning of a new era of a Lib-Con coalition government, after talks between Lib Dems and Labour failed, as according to the Lib Dems, the Labour Party “never took seriously the prospects of forming a progressive, reforming government”.

In his maiden speech as Prime Minister, Cameron said he aimed to form a “proper and full coalition” between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.

He said that he and Nick Clegg want to put aside “party differences” and work hard for the “common good” and for the “national interest”.

He declared the need to “rebuild trust” in the political system by “reforming parliament”, “cleaning up expenses” and giving the people control.

“Politicians are always their (the people’s) servants, and never their masters,” said Cameron. However, there was no mention of the recently heatedly campaigned for topic of electoral reform.

Cameron also paid tribute to Gordon Brown for his “long record of dedicated public service.”

I *really* want to post the Common People video. And I also want to make a joke about us being a ConDemNation. But I'll half refrain >.>
