Vanbrugh JCRC elections: The results

Vanbrugh elections
Monday, 6th December 2010
The eagerly anticipated Vanbrugh election results were announced on Friday evening at the college’s Christmas event, revealing the new committee for 2010-2011.

Out-going vice chairs Stephanie Northcott and Anne Ly announced the outcome of a week of voting to a packed hall of students, who were dressed in various Christmas-themed outfits for the event.

All positions on the JCRC, ranging from welfare to bar representatives, were declared, culminating with the chair election result at 12.30am. After some confusion, the result was clarified and Kallum Taylor, who had donned a Batman outfit for the evening, was revealed as the new chair of Vanbrugh, defeating Christ West by almost 200 votes.

Speaking to The Yorker about the results, Taylor said “things became pretty mental and all I could see and hear was a swarm of hands and people running towards me.”

“I really enjoyed the campaign, hitting each housing block at least 3 times and banging on about policies, and I felt that the plan to make it fun, with the whole 'Special K' idea really did work” he added.

Taylor admitted that “it's still not really sunk in now as it's so humbling to be receiving such a strong mandate” but he is determined to get straight to the task in hand. With two weeks before the end of term, his priorities are to “get the most out of my handover with the former chair and also to get to know the new team, so come term 2 we can hit the ground running.”
