Local man attacked on Walmgate

York District Hospital
Friday, 14th January 2011
On Wednesday a 29-year-old local man received a small puncture wound to his shoulder when he was attacked on George Street.

The victim, who had made his way onto Walmgate, was helped by paramedics and taken to York District Hospital for treatment. However, his injuries were not serious and he has since been released.

A 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested shortly after the incident and have been released on conditional bail as police enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Mark Jackson, of York CID, told The Yorker "This was an unusual occurrence for York and fortunately the victim was not seriously injured. It was not a random attack and we managed to locate and arrest two suspects very quickly following the incident.”

The police are appealing for witnesses to the Walmgate incident to come forward with any information they may have.
