Bomb scare in York city

Micklegate Landscape
closed the city north of Micklegate
Wednesday, 9th February 2011
Rush hour saw huge disruption in York city centre this morning after a large section of town was cordoned off due to a bomb scare.

Police evacuated and closed the city North of Micklegate and South of Station Road and traffic was heavily disrupted in the process. Authorities informed the public that a "suspect package" had been discovered within the area and was being investigated.

It is believed that the package was discovered in the mail room of the Aviva offices on Rougier Street. Whilst police said that the evacuation was a precautionary measure, bomb disposal teams are thought to have been called in to examine the package. Parts of the area began opening up again at approximately 9.45 am.
