Evil Eye in trouble

Evil Eye in trouble
Tuesday, 5th February 2008
Evil Eye Lounge has been accused of putting patrons' safety at risk.

A report, released by York Press, has found that Evil Eye has been told to address "serious concerns" about its fire safety standards.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service has warned the owners that it does not have satisfactory lighting, exits or a sufficient limit on numbers to operate safely.

York Fire Station manager Alan Bell, told The Press: "North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service have serious concerns with regards to the lack of fire precautions in the premises."

He said that management have "a total disregard for fire safety and protecting the public from harm in the event of a fire."

The Fire Service have submitted a motion for the revision of its licence.

Mr Bell told The Press: "Buildings of that type were not designed for licensed activities. A lot of buildings in York are being used for things that they were not designed for and they need to make sure the correct safety measures are in place."

He said: "We had a very positive meeting with Evil Eye on Thursday and they are working with us and co-operating."

Ian Loftus, director of Evil Eye Lounge, told them that most of the problems had now been solved.

Evil Eye is a popular venue for students with its adventurous cocktails and relaxed atmosphere.

Its claim to fame is that Hollywood star Johnny Depp once declared that it was his favourite bar.

I know for a fact that the Johnny Depp rumour is rubbish as I used to know three members of staff at evil eye who told me the then manager made it up to drill up publicity. It obviously worked!

I know Johnny personally so I questioned him on the matter, he assures me that the Evil Eye still stands as his favourite.

It's a shame that evil eye is in so much trouble, it's easily one of the coolest bars in town. I finished a monster roast there!

A friend of mine used to work there and told me that the staff weren't actually allowed to drink while on shift, they were encouraged! Love it.

This is Johnny and you're all liars!
I don't know any of you!
Stop pretending to know/be me!
It makes me feel sad. I cry. My makeup runs.
I used to drink at Evil Eye in York, it's true, but I came on to a beautiful woman there and it turned out to be a GUY!
So I never went back. I should have known when he told me his name was Tony :(

Forget fires! WATCH OUT FOR LADYMEN!
