York play goes to Drama Festival

Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis is going to NSDF
Wednesday, 13th February 2008
A Drama Barn production of Metamorphosis has been selected to appear at the National Student Drama Festival.

The Drama Barn production of Metamorphosis has been selected to appear at the National Student Drama Festival (NSDF).

Quote This really is the best compliment that any student production can receive. Quote

The play was one of ten selected from an original pool of 150 which were viewed by selectors.

The Yorker reviewer said: "It is rare for a student production to be so inventive, original and cohesive."

The play, which was shown in Week 3 of Spring Term, will now be seen by up to 640 audience members and professionals.

Jamie Wilkes, DramaSoc Chair, told The Yorker: "It feels absolutely amazing. As chairman I've always been incredibly proud of every single production that the society has produced and having the NSDF recognise our achievements is brilliant and confirms the talent that we have at York."

He added: "As a member of the production it is such an honour to be recognised amongst so many other fantastic projects, this really is the best compliment that any student production can receive."

"There will be huge names coming to see us from the theatre industry and national media so it's a great chance to confirm our reputation as one of the leading student Drama societies in the country."

"Everyone is delighted, it really is an incredible compliment. However it does mean we all need to get fit again, we're doing two shows a day for four days so it's going to be hard work."

The NSDF is a week-long festival held in Scarborough and contains the best students plays from up and down the country. It is the third successive year that a Dramasoc production has made it to the final.

This year the event will be held from the 15th-21st March.

The Festival narrowly survived being scrapped after funding could not be secured for the 2009/10 festival. Arts Council Yorkshire decided to fund the festival after public outcry.

This is really nice, but to be honest I'd rather be watching live Varsity coverage on www.nouse.co.uk

Watching anon1? I'm pretty sure it's a commentary and not a filmed update...reading perhaps?

Also why switch websites when The Yorker brings you Varsity coverage from our Sport section http://www.theyorker.co.uk/sport/

Anon 1...come back and moan when Nouse covers something The Yorker doesn't!
