Varsity victory for York

Varsity football
The Football gets underway
Thursday, 14th February 2008
An emphatic victory margin of 39 points secured York a comfortable Varsity victory.

Victories in the football, rugby, netball and basketball typified a dominant day for York.

The day kicked off with a win for the women's volleyball team inside the sports centre before the action moved to the glorious 22 acres playing fields where football, lacrosse and rugby were played.

The biggest crowd of the day, saw a hard fought win for the York rugby team with hooters and megaphones cheering the teams on, as well as the vocals of many York students.

Two victories in the football for York extended the advantage in the overall Varsity score before St John claimed a draw in the men's hockey.

The action finished off back in the sports centre with a 10 point win in the men's basketball and a successful run chase for the six-a-side cricket team.

All in all, in was a beautiful day for sport with all the action being played with derby intensity but a sporting spirit.

Varsity is seen as the warm-up for the Roses tournament, where the White Roses of York plays the Red Roses of Lancaster over the weekend of Week 2, Summer Term. The tournament will this year be played away, at Lancaster.

George Taylor was so right in his sports blog, what's the point if we're just going to hammer them? People like Nouse get all excited about their obssessive reports but surely if you were that interested you've have gone to watch?

Sorry if this sounds overly negative, I guess it's important to the players, but all seems a bit meaningless at the end of day.

  1. 1 asks what's the point? We play sport because we enjoy it, not every game is a guarenteed win, and to be negative about something that, at the end of the day, is all for fun seems a real shame.
