Club of PEP goes global

The Club of PEP has set its plan in motion to create worldwide links with other PEP societies.

Alexios Mantzarlis, President of the Club Politics, Economics and Philosophy, told The Yorker that the societies which have already been contacted within Britain “have been positive about the idea”.

Long lasting links are already in place with a Swedish society. Meetings between the two take place at their annual Ball.

PEP is not commonly offered worldwide, however Matzarlis is hoping to establish links with International Relations Clubs and other related subjects.

Matzarlis recognises the project is a lengthy one but hopes that by the end of his term “there will be a relatively solid network set up”.

The aims of the project include:

  • Bringing students from different academic and cultural backgrounds into contact with one another.
  • Expanding its academic journal, VOX.
  • Establishing channels with which to contact prestigious academics to come to speak in York.

Matzarlis hopes the project ‘will give [PEP students] the chance to get even more out of their time at York.’ As well as benefiting the university and student body as a whole.

I suppose the pretentious part is that some people make bold to care about their degrees.
