York students arrested on suspicion of assault

Police
Wednesday, 5th March 2008
Two University of York students have been arrested following an incident at Vodka Revolution last week.

The incident took place on Tuesday 26th February at Vodka Revolution on Coney Street.

According to a police spokesperson the students "were arrested on Tuesday evening on suspicion of assault".

The two students, aged 20 and 18, have been released on bail pending further investigation.

David Sharp, Halifax President, who knows the students in question, said: "Usually they are both very nice guys, especially when sober, however this kind of violence is unacceptable."

The police were called to the bar at 10:46pm following the altercation.

The incident is thought to have begun after a drink was spilt at a party where both students were guests.

A fight broke out between the elder of the two and another guest. The violence escalated when the other student joined in the fight to protect his friend.

Any witnesses should contact North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060247.

"However this type of violence is unacceptable"?

Either they're on Halifax JCRC (whatever it's called these days) or David Sharp is, in fact, their father.

So, as students we have found out this tern that punching students in the face outside Derwent is unacceptable, as is fighting in Vodka Revolutions. David Sharp, please can you confirm what kind of violence IS acceptable?!

It's obvious all he means is the violence wasn't acceptable, not that he condones some violence and not others. Stop nit-picking!

why have people suddenly become so horribly critical? There's no need whatsoever.

Acceptable violence: slapping Anon with a 20lb cod.

Some violence clearly is acceptable - for example violence used in self-defence. Sharpie's comment makes perfect sense.

It was an exchange program #7, hence the increased violence here

(I'm from Manchester btw, before anyone has a go)
