FTR £2 fare finally here

ftr
FTR
Saturday, 3rd May 2008
First are to put in place a £2 return ticket between the University and York Rail Station from Sunday 4th May for a week.

Following talks between YUSU and First some weeks ago, the bus company have agreed on lower prices for a trial period.

Students showed their annoyance with the increased price on many occasions during the Spring Term.

A petition with over 1,000 signatures was presented to FTR at the Week 8 UGM and many joined Facebook groups advocating bus boycotts.

The route has been reduced by 80p to discover if such a move will encourage more students to use the service.

Those who know about the trial have been enthusiastic: "Although it's less than a pound reduction I think it's definitely a step in the right direction!"

Sam Bayley, YUSU Societies and Communications Officer, has encouraged students to "show First that this price reduction is important to students. Vote with your feet and let First know that students here mean business!"

A step in the right direction, but unfortunately of no help to those of us who live past the train station. A single for me will still be £2.50 and a return £3.50. At least the weather is improving for walking...
