Remaining Big D tickets sell out in minutes

Big D Queues
Students queue for Big D tickets
Thursday, 5th June 2008
The final 90 Mar-D Gras Big D tickets went on sale attracting hundreds of students.

On Wednesday afternoon between 2pm and 5pm, a 'Big D Ticket Extravaganza' was organised.

The event enabled students with tickets to collect them, and those without to get a second chance at buying the 90 remaining.

Students desperate to ensure that they got tickets queued up for hours before, arriving in Derwent as early as 10am. Sofas were provided to ensure comfort and at midday cakes went on sale.

Just before the remaining tickets went on sale at 2pm, the queue had reached as far as Langwith College.

Chris Kummelstedt, Big D Organiser

Derwent Vice Chair Chris Kummelstedt said: "It's amazing, it's hard to believe a college event can cause so much hype!"

Kummelstedt added that: "Some people had told me that they were going to sleep here to make sure they got tickets".

By 2.15pm only a few tickets remained. Kummelstedt estimated that by 2.30pm around 200 to 300 people had already bought or picked up their tickets.

Gabriella de Ferry, a second year queuing for a ticket, said "I wasn't sure if I wanted to go but I'm excited about it now. All my friends are going."

A third year who managed to buy one of the 90 remaining tickets said: "I'm not that fussed about it to be honest. I just think it's the thing to do in your last year as everyone else seems to be."

Another student added "I think most people who want a ticket will get one, but I think a lot of people were put off by the hype."
