Students attacked near Millennium Bridge

Police
Police warn students
Wednesday, 22nd October 2008
The university has asked students to avoid the Southbank area at night after two students were attacked there.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning on the riverside path by the Bridge.

The two University of York students, one male and one female, were attacked by four teenagers. Fortunately, neither student suffered serious injuries.

One third year told The Yorker: "I have a friend who lives nearby. We've heard of a few people getting mugged there so now we make her either take a taxi or come home with us."

Manager of Student Support Services Steve Page said: “Whilst York is a relatively safe city, students are reminded to think about their safety and take suitable precautions.”
