The Yorker held its first Annual General Meeting on Monday evening. More than 50 people attended the event, at which elections were held for a number of journalism and business positions.

Members also voted on proposed changes to the constitution and chose the charity The Yorker will sponsor for the next three years.

Last year, The Yorker raised £300 for The Press Guardian Angels Appeal. At the AGM, Operational Director Nick Connell proposed choosing a different local charity to sponsor for the next three years, with a target of £1,000 set. Four charities were nominated and the West Yorkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre won the vote.

In the elections, several people reran for the position they currently held, including Editor Dominic Freeston. They were all successfully re-elected.

Some of the current editors chose to run for a different position and were also all successful. Changes included Amy Benziane and Marie Thouaille, who had been the Editors of News and Blogs respectively, becoming the new Deputy Editors.

There were also a number of members who stood for election for the first time. Among those elected was Ben Smith, a first year who ran for Deputy Sports Editor. Here are the results in full:

As far as I know, The Yorker isn't a society, #2, it's a limited company completely independent of the uni.
