York hasn't won best newspaper! I'm in shock! I demand immediate YUSU resignations!

The Yorker can count itself unlucky not to have won best website, or at least have got runners-up.

But kudos to Nouse for winning awards in both sections as it proves the incredibly high standard of York's media output as a whole! So well done to the Nouse team, and hopefully both The Yorker, Nouse and Vision will be there or there abouts next year!

Are the rest of the results available yet? It'll be interesting to see if the individual York students won their awards

One win and one runner-up for Oxford University, none for Cambridge, 8 for the whole of London... and 5, including a win, for York. Yet again we're out there at the front. Congrats, guys, and look to the winners for further inspiration for next year!

#7, Jason's post was actually very useful - thanks for breaking the stats down!

As Technical Director of Nouse, I of course am hoping to move that runner up for nouse.co.uk to winner (and already have a plan underway to improve the website significantly), and I'm sure The Yorker won't be resting on their laurels either. Student media at York will continue to innovate and improve, and I'm already looking forward to next year's Guardian awards!

I think it is now time for me to implement The Yorker comment banning system.

how does something that is so inaccurate/willfulling missquoting/generally ridiculous in the fevered accusations left right and center do well? is journalism not an aspect of the award, only entertainment value? I guess the people that give it out dont have a clue what actually goes on as they are not part of York.

Not anyone that I talk to about it that has something to do with what they write about agree with what they write as accuratly reflecting whats happened.

does anyone agree with me, at least partly? (i know I am exagerating, im sure there is some accurate reporting in Nouse)

i dont think that this is abusive, if anyone thinks so, im sorry

"is journalism not an aspect of the award, only entertainment value?"

I'm not sure who we're having a go at, Mr Anonymous, but let me know and I'll gladly join in! (As a former editor of Vision, I obviously love a bit of shit-stirring at the expense of factual accuracy.)

Are we angry at Adam Thorn, who over the past two years has broken several stories that went national, and is the only journalist to be nominated in both the 2007 and 2008 shortlists?

Perhaps you mean Nouse? Their front pages are almost always throwaway gags, with little journalistic merit and certainly no pretensions of seriousness. You've probably got a point about them.

I know I'm safe, as I am neither journalistically worthy nor entertaining.

I have written a couple of pieces for York media.. and have endeavoured to make them as accurate and unbiased as possible. The problem is, of course, that people complain about them being "boring" or "lies" whenever they can and I guess it's hard to make a story appear appealing to the majority without slanting it a little. It is a shame that some articles are inaccurate but generally it's only the comment pieces that are noticeably biased.

I want to know what #10 said...

I don't think that any other universities are likely to have completely unbiased or high-calibre media either. The individual writers and the newspapers are only compared to one another and I would hazard a guess that student newspapers are generally quite unreliable sources!

#10 made a comment about me posing next to scantily clad ladies. I presume they were actually sad/bored enough to Google me and found this album in my Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/laser2k/sets/72057594107056811/.
