Students to benefit from PEP scholarship fund

This year's successful candidates are set to receive up to £500 for research projects as a result of the new scholarship.

The initiative came about to help PEP students fund and develop scholarly studies within their field.

Club of PEP President Alexios Mantzarlis said: "I am very proud and very happy that this newly launched Scholarship Fund will give the opportunity to two students of PEP this year, and many more in the future, to pursue an academic project they were passionate about."

Half a dozen PEP students from the university applied for the scholarship which aims provide them with valuable funding towards their chosen projects.

Following the submission of a detailed explanation of their project along with character and academic references, students were whittled down to the final three.

Two separate projects are to be funded in accordance with The Club of PEP Committee's decision.

One will look at the unpublished work that Michael Oakeshott left to The London School of Economics and Political Science. For the other project, a Chinese MA student will submit a paper on the political awareness of the Chinese student diaspora in the UK to a conference in Oxford.

The creation of the fund has taken the last year to establish completely. After an MA student sought funding for a project, the idea of creating a scholarship specifically for PEP students came about.

The £500 used for the scholarship comes from a recurrent sponsorship deal the club has since made with Price Waterhouse Coopers.

Head of the School of PEP Professor Mozaffar Qizilbash said of the Club of PEP: "Its flagship scholarship program supports original initiatives taken on by students. I am not aware of any other student society which has developed such a carefully worked out and ambitious scheme to support the initiatives of its students."

Doesn't Music Soc do something similar, or am I mistaken?

If they do then that's great - the more opportunities for students to get support for academic and scholarly projects the better I reckon!
