Get ready for RAG 2009

RAG
Friday, 6th February 2009
Co-written by Kim Mann

With RAG Week less than a week away, The Yorker gives you a round-up of everything that has been planned, including the highly anticipated York Come Dancing and the annual RAG Viking Raid.

This year, RAG's beneficiaries include YORK LINKS, Martin House and Support our Soldiers on the local scale, with the national charity being Help for Heroes and the international charity being Medecins sans Frontieres.

The first in the line up is York Come Dancing, an event which sold out within the first three hours. This will be taking place on Sunday 8th February in L/N/028. With campus celebrities such as Matt Burton, Tom Scott and Dan Taylor amongst the contestants, the show is definitely one not to be missed. Although tickets for the show have sold out, there are still £2 'lounge bar' tickets available on the door in the Courtyard.

Monday follows with two equally exciting events; one reflecting the current economic crisis, Wall Street Crash in the newly refurbished Yates in town and the other, YUSU Comedy in the Courtyard. With drink prices rising and falling, the Wall Street Crash, in association with Fusion 2009, is sure to imitate the constantly changing stock market. For those who want a quieter night, YUSU Comedy showcases Sarah Milican and Chris Ramsey.

Tuesday holds the annual RAG Viking Raid. Following the usual routes, ending up in either Tru or Gallery, this promises to be a great night out.

On Wednesday, you can go to your nearest campus bars and buy RAG cocktails before heading for Ziggy's in your charity shop clothes! The Shambles will also be performing in V/045.

The Blagathon, the annual RAG charity auction is being held in Derwent Bar on Thursday. Items up for auction will include prizes such as Tru and Gallery membership, concert tickets and even bar tabs.

Friday follows with all the colleges planning their own RAG events across campus.

Ending this year's RAG week is the themed RAG Parade, taking place in Parliament Square on Saturday. With the theme as 'Through the Ages', each college will be determined to put on their best fancy dress and raise the most amount of money.

In the evening, to round-up the week, RAG LOVE will take place at the Courtyard's Saturday night event, where there will be a midnight feast, a raffle and even charity roses available to buy.
