GSA elections are GO!

Saturday, 24th October 2009
The GSA elections are back again this year, with nominations currently opened until the 28th of October, when the list of candidates will be released and campaigning officially begins.

After what GSA Returning Officer Dan Horsfall terms an "embarrassing election period last year," involving foul play and manipulation throughout, the GSA are hoping to turn things around and gain credibility with this year's elections.

When asked on his thoughts regarding the upcoming electionns Horsfall told The Yorker: "It was, and still is a difficult job to put last year's catastrophe behind us, but we are hopeful for a great debate and contest to arise." He added that the "committee has had a better direction this year," and that they were "confident that last year's embarrassment will not be repeated."

Horsfall also noted that these elections would "certainly be a test to the new constitution," although the GSA "remains confident that it will work out to our association's advantage." Indeed, the new constitution calls for more positions, both within and without the Exec: a "big ask from the graduates, whom, given the nature of graduate study, have little time for themselves."

Hustings will be held on 30th October in Edge Bar, before the voting open on 2nd November. The polls will then close on 6th November, with the results announced that same night.
