Collision on University Road

Library
Thursday, 28th January 2010
Police were called to the scene at around 1.30 pm yesterday, when a grey Nissan taxi collided with a 21 year old woman near the bus stop outside the JB Morrell library.

The student was taken to York District hospital with minor injuries to her head, while the 58-year-old York taxi driver was treated for shock. What potentially could have been a very serious accident has thankfully left no one seriously injured, but it does highlight the dangers of University Road, which has no speed limit, despite it running through a very central part of the university campus. Students and car drivers should both be very cautious.

I can't believe the amount of times that I have seen a taxi whizzing along that road at over 50 mph. It's disgraceful and I don't know why the university doesn't do something about it!

thinking about it, are there any speed limit signs around saying that?

No speed limit? Someone obviously hasn't taken a driving test - as any driver knows the limit in a built-up area with street lights is 30mph unless otherwise signposted. Perhaps one of those flashy signs showing you your speed is the way to go. And some zebra crossings there and on Green Dyke's Lane wouldn't go amiss either.
