University dining membership provides food for thought

The fox and apple club
A good meal for less
Monday, 1st February 2010
Written by Alex Cockle.

A new, readily available exclusive discount dining experience open to York University students is due to launch the sale of its membership cards over the coming weeks.

The Fox and Apple Club, a private society set-up for students, intends to provide an opportunity for all those with an interest in wining and dining to experience the tantalising tastes of York’s headline restaurants. The concept of the club is to afford benefits to everyone involved by offering members a broad range of discounts on meals at principally local restaurants. Co-director, Becky Young, explained this approach to encourage the university’s students to eat out, telling The Yorker that “We understand money can influence the places that students go to so we negotiated deals with fantastic local restaurants in York to allow them to eat at the finest places”.

Deals as part of the membership include 2 for 1 on Tuesdays to Thursdays at York’s Melton Restaurant, a bistro often featured in Good Food Guides and a similar offer on sushi meals at Tokyo Joes (situated near to York Minster).

Students can be expected to make back the £10 cost with just one meal at a restaurant in partnership with The Fox and Apple Club’s scheme. Joining also has its charitable advantage, with 10% of profits going towards YUSU’s RAG. Sales of memberships will take place at The Courtyard on Mondays and Thursdays from now onwards, with times currently to be confirmed. For more information or to keep up to date with the latest deals guaranteed at York’s restaurants through the Fox and Apple Club; contact the directors - contact@foxandapple.co.uk, or take a look at the facebook group - http://tinyurl.com/fox-apple

It's a discount card, not a private club.
