Tru nightclub sold by Luminar Leisure

Gallery Tru Logo 02
Tru's bandwagon event has been moved to Gallery
Tuesday, 4th May 2010
Fans of Tru will be dismayed to learn that last Tuesday's closure of Tru nightclub is to be permanent. A YUSU press release received by The Yorker reveals that Luminar Leisure has sold the nightclub. Both Gallery and Club Salvation have launched events on Tuesdays in the hope of replacing it.

No official reason for the change has been given by Tru management, or by their parent company Luminar, which also owns The Gallery. When the change of venue was announced last week, initially for Week 1 only, a statement on the YUSU website simply stated that the change had been made for "operational reasons". Staff had been posted to Gallery instead.

Club Salvation has responded to closures by announcing that they will be launching an alternative University of York student night next Tuesday. Entry price will be £3 and the club will be open until 4.30am.

There was speculation last term that both Tru and The Gallery would face closure, as Luminar’s share prices have fallen significantly in the last few years. Luminar had stated in response that they "have no plans to close either of our venues in York".

The end of "Trusday" will undoubtedly dismay a large number of students, with one second year telling The Yorker: "I'm gutted. I love Tru and hate Gallery so I don't think I'll be going out on Tuesdays". The Gallery already has a night for University of York students on Thursdays, with 'SNG' on Sunday nights also being popular.

Salvation attempted to run a student night for York Sport last year, which failed after clubs rebelled and continued to head to Ziggys.

The Yorker contacted Tru for a comment, but at the time this article was published, we had not received a response.
