Safe landing for 'Come Fly With D'

Derwent’s end of term event, Big D, proved a huge success, despite initial concerns over ticket sales and the availability of headline act, Basshunter.

1,600 tickets went on sale for the event and, despite selling slowly at first, the event eventually sold out.

Ben Woolley, one of the event’s organisers, revealed: “The night was really successful, despite a few issues experienced with the outdoor entertainment, which were largely out of our control.”

The event had an inter-continental theme, dubbed ‘Come Fly With D’, and boasted various themed areas, including Russian bars, Thai parties and more exotic locations.

Basshunter and Sub Focus headlined the event, with other acts including Lethal Bizzle, Crystal Fighters and Itchy Feet.

Basshunter hit international headlines in December when he was charged with sexually assaulting two girls in a club in Scotland.

He was acquitted by a Scottish court in June, with the girls’ evidence dismissed as being unreliable and incredible, leaving him available to perform at the event.

Woolley said: “Basshunter had the biggest crowd by far, but DoorSafe were stricter on the D Bar capacity.

“My highlight of my night had to be the great reaction to Bizzle taking to the stage in Derwent.”

However, an anonymous attendee found the area too busy and thought DoorSafe could have done more to prevent pushing: “Basshunter was a very popular act and people wanted to get as close to him as possible, so pushing was inevitable.”

“However, the level and force of pushing was heavy and it appeared that DoorSafe did very little to tackle it, which was confusing bearing in mind people had full drinks on the dancefloor area.”

Woolley insisted: “They were all very professional throughout, and dealt with any issues that arose in the correct way.”

You have an initial quote from Woolley without introducing who he is, and you only explain he was one of the organisers later down. It doesn't read very well, you spend 1/2 the article wondering who the hell this Woolley bloke is!
