Interview: YUSU Volunteering officers Grace Teh and Hannah Brearley

Grace and Hannah
Newly elected YUSU Volunteering officers
Tuesday, 1st June 2010
In a recent interview with newly elected YUSU Volunteering Officers Grace Teh and Hannah Brearley, they tell us why they decided to take up this position and what they have planned for us in the year ahead.

According to Teh, she had already been “involved in volunteering” and had always been “toying with the idea of getting more involved”. Some of their many volunteer works brought them to paint houses and even to clear a cemetery!

Brearley told The Yorker about their plans for a new “buddy system for adults” and their hopes of setting up a project for the homeless.

“We also want to massively raise the profile for YUSU Volunteering,” said the officers, saying also that Twitter, Facebook and other social media would be their main sources of publicity.

Other aims include untangling “restrictions for international students” in volunteering and “getting graduates involved” as well.

Another exciting event the girls are looking forward to is the College Cup, where they hope to “draw on college rivalry” to get people involved in volunteering.
