Toffs buys odour pump to lose sweat smell

Disco Ball
Toffs: No sweat?
Monday, 15th October 2007
Toffs nightclub have introduced a new air freshener system to mask the smell of sweat following the introduction of the new smoking ban.

The machine pumps out a scented odour between 9pm and 3am in the morning and was introduced during the summer following concerns about the strong smells of the toilets and people sweating while dancing.

Chris, an employee at Toffs, told the yorker: “Basically the new system is on a timer from 9-3 and was introduced after the ban”. He added: “The system is not technically a freshener, but is a high-density liquidity machine”. Toffs maintain that the company have seen its introduction as a success.

York’s biggest nightclub now asks for all smokers to leave the club when smoking and gives students a yellow wristband to let them back in. And while Chris, a smoker himself, tells the yorker that the new arrangements have yet to cause problems, many students will feel aggrieved at having to go outside in the colder winter months.

The news follows students contacting the yorker over the introduction of the smoking ban in July, which makes lighting-up in all public places illegal in the UK. Charity Cancer Research UK found that bar workers are now working in significantly healthier conditions.

Their investigation found four times less cotinine (the metabolite of nicotine) in workers' blood steams than in June and that air quality dropped from near dangerous levels in June to levels which compare to the outside air in August.
