The York Students In Schools (YSIS) program which allows University of York Students to work as volunteer teaching assistants will benefit from continuing support from Nestle.

Nestle has been associated with the YSIS program since it was started in 1994, and today places nearly 600 of the University’s students a year in 60 participating schools around York. The scheme is also supported by York City Council and is now one of the largest voluntary, school based projects in the UK.

Louise Thurston, YSIS Coordinator commented “students are great role models, they support pupils.” In addition to this the scheme is a good way for students to involve themselves in the community. In the last academic year, almost 600 volunteers were placed at nearly 60 schools, providing 20,300 hours of support.

Nestle Corporate Communications Manager, James Maxton said “Nestle is a founding member of YSIS and we are delighted to continue this relationship, benefitting the schools and young people in the York community”.

Dan Bodey, Assistant head of Fulford School stated “YSIS is one of the most positive schemes we are involved with as a school; the university students benefit from the length of commitment the scheme demands. It is a thoroughly positive experience for all involved”.

YSIS would also like to acknowledge the support of the Shepherd Group from the beginning of the scheme.
