Faintheart
Faintheart....York student hits the big time
Tuesday, 30th October 2007
Phil Lester doesn't describe himself as a drama buff. But that might be all about to change, after he was cast in "Faintheart" - a film due to hit our screens next summer.

Lester stars alongside Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting, Snatch) and Eddie Marsan, as well as Spaced star Jessica Stevenson. He got his part by applying with a YouTube audition - he is however, a veteran YouTube diarist.

Lester got the call a week and a half ago. Not only is the film to hit screens nationwide and come out on DVD, but the producers have asked Lester to produce a video diary of himself to go on the DVD.

Typically downbeat Lester said: "Yeah, I'm quite excited about it. I've always been interested in film and media - and have made YouTube videos for quite a while. I've always wanted to be in a film - but I'm not like an actor or anything."

Quote Yeah, I'm quite excited about it. I've always been interested in film and media - and have made YouTube videos for quite a while. I've always wanted to be in a film - but I'm not like an actor or anything. Quote

Lester is off tomorrow to begin shooting his part, which should take around four to five days. He admitted that the money was "nice".

Faintheart is the first user-generated film in the world - directed by Vito Rocco who got acclaim for his MySpace short Goodbye Cruel World. The cast has been put together from video applications through MySpace, as have much of the ideas and script. Film4, Vertigo, Slingshot, Skillset, and the UK Film Council's Premiere Fund have all donated money to the project.

No prizes for guessing that this will be a bad film if it needed MySpace to get publicity.
