Vanbrugh footballers set to show some balls

Thursday, 1st November 2007
Vanbrugh's football teams are joining forces for a charity naked calendar.

Vanbrugh's footballers are set to strip

Ryan Bennett, Vanbrugh College Chair, announced the idea to YUSU Senate, where it was greeted with enthusiasm.

The first and second teams are due to compile a calendar in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The line-up of football stars set to take their kits off is:

  • January - Jack Nicholas
  • February - Regan
  • March - Whittaker
  • April - Matt Oliver
  • May - Matt Richards
  • June - Brummie Matt
  • July - Tris
  • August - Ridgeway
  • September - Gaz
  • October - Shelly
  • November - Chris Schultz
  • December - Squad photo
  • Line-up is subject to change

The organiser Sam Whittaker revealed the inspiration for the calendar: "It was one of those 'pub ideas' that you come up with when you're with your mates. The difference this time was that I realised some good come of it as it can be associated with the RAG charitable beneficiaries. What occurred to me was that there’s always people promoting things like Breast Cancer, but no-one really talks about Testicular Cancer."

The calendar is set to be on sale in early December, with plenty of time to get orders in before Christmas. The group were waiting for support from YUSU and enough sales interest, but with Senate persuaded and the Facebook group at over 100 members, plans are beginning to take shape.

Joey Ellis, Charities and Development Officer, is Creative Director of the project.

York Cancer Research has labs both at the university and all over Yorkshire, so all donated money would be helping fight cancer in Yorkshire.

The Yorker will be covering the boys' journey from Footie Boys to Calendar Boys, so watch this space!
