Know your Chair... Vanbrugh

Vanbrugh elections
Saturday, 1st December 2007
Nominations for Vanbrugh JCRC are now closed and as candidates gear up their campaign, The Yorker talked to Vanbrugh Chair candidates Daisy Donald, Hannah Jones and Matt Oliver, all second year students and current JCRC members.

With the construction of Bleachfield nearing completion and students being spread far and wide accross campus, the talk is very much of unity, integration and social life within Vanbrugh College. Daisy Donald said: "Because of the way Vanbrugh is structured it is quite separated... I want to unite Vanbrugh a bit more by doing more events that bring people from different blocks together." Hannah Jones said: "Because I was in Fairfax House last year I know how important integration is."

While Jones' policies include 'making Planet V better than Big-D', Matt Oliver intends to take a different approach. He said: "I want to change the nature of some of our social events. We have a lot of Planet Vs which is great, it is the Vanbrugh thing, but we also need to have social events that draw different elements of the college together... like the ice skating that's coming up, like paintballing, Vanbrugh on tour again, because last year was really successful, and holding gigs."

Other Policies and Plans:

  • Daisy Donald:
  1. Take Vanbrugh on tour
  2. Shisha Bar on Vanbrugh Paradise
  • Hannah Jones:
  1. Vanopoly
  2. Intra-college sport
  • Matt Oliver:
  1. Get societies to meet in V Bar to keep it open
  2. Help college sport captains improve the teams

Why? Similar bars in Nottingham and Bristol are really successful.

Not anymore they're not. Shisha bars are no longer legal because of the smoking ban.

This is so typical of chair candidates. Stupid promises that people have not even researched. and how will this be funded? ridiculous.
