(See what we did there? Like the love child of ‘Got milk’ and ‘You’ve been tangoed’)
Laura Reynolds looks at the hype surrounding the collaboration.
Just a week to go until the man in red arrives...
The high street offers many outfit options for such occasions, perhaps too many. Here is The Yorker's round up of the best party dresses available on the high street:
Jewel colours are all the rage at the moment, don’t cha know? So you could do a lot worse than this emerald green dress from Oasis. The tucked waist and skinny belt make it great for hourglass figures. For a classic look, team with black or silver shoes, or to hit this season’s colour blocking trend, go for a more eye-catching colour.
If glam and glitz are your thing, New Look has plenty to offer. This jewelled dress is perfect for a night out on the town, although perhaps not so suitable for a family party.
Jane Norman are always bang on for party dresses, although their ranges tend to be repetitive season after season. To stand out from the crowd, this red bandeau dress does the trick (although accessorize carefully, to avoid looking like Santa’s bit on the side). For great curves, try this colour block body con dress. The black base makes sure it ticks that annoying ‘smart casual’ box, but it’s not too boring either.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, make like Carrie Bradshaw (minus the puddle) with this feminine mesh prom dress.
Certainly, lace has been a big part of the Christmas wardrobe for the last couple of years. Go complete lace in this simple navy dress from New Look, or stick to the sleeves with this black skater dress.
If you have several different occasions to attend, but your budget will only stretch to one outfit, fear not. Topshop have this skater dress which can be worn with heels and a glitzy belt for a night out, or dressed down with flats and a cardigan for dinner at your Nan’s on Boxing Day.
Looking for something a little less girly? I absolutely fell in love with this Whistles jumpsuit when I saw it in Marie Claire, but at £145 (reduced) it’s likely to be out of most student’s budgets. Truth be told, I found a lot of gorgeous pieces whilst I was poking around on the Whistles website. *sigh*. Fear not though, Zara have this classic jump suit for £59.99, or head to Topshop for this shorter jumpsuit, complete with Peter Pan collar.
However, if you feel that the classic LBD is the only way forward, the high street still has plenty on offer for you. This Oasis black draped dress is perfect for formal gatherings, but the low-dip back and ruched waist add a sexy twist too. The Jane Norman prom dress is perfect for vamping it up a little, and is perfect with teaming with red or silver accessories. It’s available in beige too, although this screams summer wedding rather than Christmas do.
I love the black skater dress! I tried to order it last week but they didn't have it in my size :(
I really want a skater dress too! Going to have to wait until the sales though :-(
