Just a week to go until the man in red arrives...
Laura Reynolds looks at shoes for your Christmas do!
It never ceases to amaze me how the retail industry, and the fashion industry in particular, seems to be months ahead of itself. The Cruise Collection, hitting stores on January 19th, is very much set for the summer-yet by the time this elusive season finally rolls around, many of the pieces will no doubt be out of fashion, as so often happens in this fickle industry.
If, however, by January 19th you are feeling the effect of the winter blues and are looking for a fast way to dispose of the latest instalment of student loan, you could do a lot worse. Although previews are not available on the H&M website yet, they have been flying around other fashion websites for a couple of weeks now.
The collection seems to stick to the glitz of the previous collection, but with a categorically more summery feel. Printed silk features heavily, with the same fruity design stamped on dresses, blouses, bikinis and even shoes. It is anticipated that other retailers will follow suit and prints will hit the high street in a big way this summer.
As with the previous collection, a lot of the items are reasonably priced, such as the blue Cruise Collection printed bikini at £24.99-perhaps a tad more than you would usually expect to pay at H&M, but more than reasonable for an item descending from one of the foremost fashion houses of the 21st Century.
Some of the pieces, it has to be said, would not look out of place at a poolside in Benidorm (too harsh? Perhaps, I’ll let you judge for yourselves). Others, such as the metallic gold leather heeled sandals (£69.99) hold onto the classic elegance for which Versace is renowned.
The silk print dress is tasteful and flattering, but the white embellished jeans are reminiscent of Elvis’ wardrobe, and nod back to the gaudy golds of the last Versace-H&M collaboration.
It has to be said though, whatever the consensus on the collection, it’s bound to fly off the shelves. Many H&M stores sold out of the last lot of Versace goodies in 30 minutes, which has only served to stir up more hype around the new launch. Couple that with the fact that this is rumoured to be the last Versace-H&M collaboration, and shoppers will likely be camping out for hours, if not days, to get their hands on whatever they can.
