Summer Festival Survival

Fishmates festival wellington boots
Tuesday, 30th June 2009
Summer festival on the horizon? Already escaped for a couple of days and got a festival under your belt, or raring to go since Woodstock knocked you into festival mode?

Well, just ensure you’ve packed the essentials - the essential festival clothes to see you through in style, that is!

We’ve been promised a heat wave and although this may be good news for sun-lovers, it might cause problems if you’re in the sun for too long. As well as the usual festival favourites, remember to throw in a few extras. Here’s a little list of things not to forget, since it's easy enough to be caught off guard whilst on your travels.

The bare necessities: strong sunscreen and some sort of trainers or flip flops as well as the traditional Wellington boot. Don’t forget a mini mirror and maybe an eyeliner stick and bit of glittery makeup. I wouldn’t go all-out with regular makeup- unless you’re getting your face painted or looking to shock, stick to something light and hot ('80s influenced makeup, perhaps? Any Bowies in the audience?)!

A good pair of shorts or a skirt in either a plain colour or pattern will be a great base to what a few t-shirts would top off. A couple of summery dresses would do just as well. The main thing to consider when packing up for a quick trip or festival is whether you’d be prepared to ditch anything that gets grubby, so my suggestions are to hit the more economically aware high street stores for easy-to-wear ‘disposables’.

Remember: if you’re caught short in the heat without a pair of shades, a silly (or sophisticated straw trilby) hat, most festivals have stores selling all sorts of silly souvenirs and clothes. Take along a contingency fund for clothes as well as a sober friend just in case - you may be able to get away with wearing all-sorts when you’re there, but you may find the train journey home to be a very different experience!

Have a look online at New Look, Topshop, Joy(a bit more expensive but even has a FESTIVAL SHOP!)or Peacocks for some favourite throw-away (or re-purchasable) fashion.

Clothes-wise you’ll want to pack a few outfits that you won’t be devastated if they get ruined. After all, a lot of the festival is in effortless enjoyment of both what’s on the stage and what’s on you!
