The votes have been counted and today Grace Fletcher-Hackwood, YUSU's Academic and Welfare Officer, got the sack.

What does this mean for YUSU, now that there are just five officers left on the sabbatical team? Dan Ashby, former editor of the Yorker, reports.

Produced by Jo Shelley and Lucy Taylor.

For the love of all that is good and holy will you please STOP COPYING PHOTOS FROM FACEBOOK!

You're a private company. The photos belong to other people, and you need their permission before posting them otherwise you're breaking the law and the your management board are personally liable if you get sued.

You need to start playing by grown-up rules.

This is not correct.

Any photos which are posted publicly on facebook are just that - PUBLIC. They are not copyright.

If you don't want people to nick them - make them private.

@#9 - I suggest you read up on copyright law. Other interesting reading may include the Facebook Terms of Service - http://yorkuk.facebook.com/terms.php, which directly contradict your claims enough. As someone who has been in trouble with the copyright police (the self-appointed private companies who, thanks to the American DMCA, have stupid amounts of power that no company should have) twice now, I know what I'm talking about. When Pontefract Press wanted to use my photos, they asked permission to use my Facebook and Flickr photos, The Yorker should be no different.

As for the videocast itself, I don't think it was just a simple matter of left-wing vs. right-wing as Dan Ashby made out.

"Any photos which are posted publicly on facebook are just that - PUBLIC. They are not copyright."

Chris actually just made my point quite well, but I might as well add a quote from the facebook T and Cs...

"You retain full ownership of all of your User Content and any intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights associated with your User Content."

You are breaking the law. You're using other people's property to make money. Stop it.

"You're using other people's property to make money. Stop it."

Think people should shill out and remember that The Yorker donates profits to charity... not YUSU!

Surely Hackwood was voted out because, after punching some guy, she made it clear that she was incapable of competently doing her job? As far as I'm concerned (and I voted), this has nothing to do with what side of the fence she's on.
