50 years after the publication of 'James and the Giant Peach', the works of Roald Dahl continue to celebrate success.
“This is a problem that needs to be addressed to ensure the continued success of the competition,” she added.
Wyne is sure the competition “will be a success” as “both institutions have worked hard” to make it happen.
She also said, “We have compromised a lot to make sure both York and Lancaster are able to compete at this year’s competition.”
However, York teams are still facing difficulties.
The timing of Roses this year is going to have a major effect on our first team, said table tennis president Reza Mafi.
According to Reza, the team’s chances of winning Roses have been severely hindered.
Although unaffected by the competition and exam dates clash, squash co-president Goose said, “Lancaster and York should work together to avoid this.”
“However, we did put Roses on their exam dates last year, so maybe it’s karma,” he added.
The rowing competition will be held separately, on April 24. This will not be ideal for York’s rowing team as “some team members will not be back in time.”
Rowing team captain Ashley Haycock said, “In any case, we have given our crews enough advance notice to ensure we can field strong crews.”
On their exam dates? There were four events on the Friday last year - there are more than that on the Thursday this year and Friday is as busy as Saturday! How am I supposed to get to Lancaster when I have an exam? Lancaster are cheating by moving this after being told that we had exams throughout the week. If they had given any flexibility at all then it would have been at least a gesture but they continue to refuse to change problematic fixtures and try to give themselves as big an advantage as they can get. And since it's just a "friendly" competition without any official significance, there isn't any external moderation to report them to!
Just to clarify, the rowing is no longer taking place as students from UYBC were unable to sacrafice both the weekends before and during their exams for competing. Our summer BUCS competition takes place in Nottingham on the weekend of Roses and BUCS happens to pip Roses in terms of priority for the club. We're gutted but have no other alternative.
