(See what we did there? Like the love child of ‘Got milk’ and ‘You’ve been tangoed’)
Laura Reynolds looks at the hype surrounding the collaboration.
Just a week to go until the man in red arrives...
Lacy History
The ancient craft of embroidering lace was held in very high esteem. It was considered to be the crème de la crème of material, worn only by royalty, nobility and the exceptionally wealthy. Countries such as Belgium, Russia, Ireland, Spain, Malta and Turkey all claim to have a unique heritage associated with lace making.
Gothic Look
This look is about glamour, glamour and more glamour. The last thing you should be looking like is a black hooded, baggy trouser wearing, purple haired 'Goth' we all remember from our school days. Instead think more on the lines of Dita Von Teese; extremely sexy, yet elegant.
So, to begin with, invest in a lace staple piece such as a dress or skirt. New Look are selling a gorgeous black lace Prom Dress for £20 in the sale, which, if you ask me, is an utter steal. It's worth every penny considering all the Christmas Balls and parties which are just around the corner.
Alternatively, look no further than Next for erotic lacy pencil skirts. Make sure the style of both dresses and skirts are structured to create an elegant silhouette, as you want that stunning material to hug your figure in all the right places à la Miss Teese.
Minimise on accessories to avoid looking tacky. Find vintage jewellery from your mum’s jewellery chest or hit some of the market stalls in York at the weekend to find vintage sparkly gems.
As far as makeup is concerned, vamp up the look with smoky eyes (don’t go overboard on the eyeliner though!) or wear slick red lipstick for maximum impact and glamour.
Just remember to stick to black lace and keep your fangs at home to avoid looking like a Halloween reject.
Ladylike Look
If the glam-Goth look is not for you, fear not as lace is incredibly versatile and can also be used to create an ultra feminine look. This style involves wearing one key lace piece to complete the outfit. For instance invest in a lace cardi or bolero to wear over t-shirts or tops. H&M are selling a range of cropped lace cardis in black, navy and beige priced £14.99. Although I would urge you to avoid the beige as it looks and feels like a net curtain!
I recently acquired an early Christmas present (jealous?) in the form of a black lace bolero from Topshop. It's the epitome of femininity and oh so practical - bonus!
If the lace cardis seem too grandma-ish for you, then a lace blouse is definitely the way to go. They are about in abundance on the High Street; check Topshop out for some beautiful lace designs. Do not forget to purchase a nude camisole top to wear under the blouse, as most of them are see-through. I’m sure it goes without saying that a visible bra does not scream classy lady in the slightest.
Most of them are dark shades so to brighten up your outfit wear colourful shoes or accompany it with a strikingly bright bag.
Warning: lace blouses are fairly expensive on the High Street. Expect to pay at least £25 for a good quality blouse. However, lace always makes a fashionable come back so it'll be a worthwhile investment.
Still not convinced?
Then accessories are the way forward. Get your hands on clutch bags with lace designs, corsages made from lace or lacy tights. If you want to get creative then head to Lace Magic on Low Petergate in York. This shop has every lace item imaginable, from handmade lace to Boudoir and Bridal style lace. Don’t waste any time; this lacy haven is a must for those who seek some individuality.
Finally, don't overload on lace. One key item will be enough to see you through this season.
Just remember to choose your item wisely and learn to love the lace you’re in.
