(See what we did there? Like the love child of ‘Got milk’ and ‘You’ve been tangoed’)
Laura Reynolds looks at the hype surrounding the collaboration.
Just a week to go until the man in red arrives...
The spring/summer collections of Celine, Issa and DKNY all feature floaty and slouchy dresses in shocking cobalt, royal, sapphire and azure blue. The dresses are simple in design with minimal detail and accessorizing. The Armani Privé Haute couture Spring 2009 collection showcased an exciting mix of electric blue and yellows with statement black patent jewellery and shoes. Combining electric blue and bright yellow should be attempted with caution however, as high street items will have more impact if the colours are worn separately.
Blue is universal
Unlike the other primary colours, red and yellow, blue is easy to wear for virtually anyone no matter what your hair colour or skin tone. For blondes, electric blue is a fantastic shade to wear as it clashes with pale hair which will create the wow factor on a night out. Likewise, redheads can look extremely retro and chic in electric blue… be bold! Electric blue should be a favourite with brunettes as dark hair suits vivid shades and they can also go for the deeper shades of electric blue such as moonlight, which will add sultry mystery. This colour also compliments both pale and tanned skin tones. Ergo blue is for everyone!
How to look electric
To make the most of this trend, opt for electric blue dresses which will be sure to turn heads in a flash. Choose A-line and loose fitting dresses that you can wear in the day and then dress up at night. Wear electric blue dresses with black opaque tights or leggings unless you are brave enough to bare you legs in March! Black accessories really stand out against the bright blue and add definition.
Head to Miss Selfridge for an electric blue bubble dress with black detailing around the collar and under the bust. Wear this dress in the day with a long sleeved top underneath and boots, then wear with black or nude heels and big earrings to dazzle at night.
For a slightly more casual yet equally eye-catching blue dress, look no further than Topshop’s pleat front smock priced at £45 . This is a great every-day dress to throw on when you want an explosion of colour. Expect this dress to make a reappearance in the summer months - worn with sandals and sunnies it's perfect!
If you’re thinking of investing in an evening or formal dress on the high street then avoid the conservative Little Black Dress at all costs and go for an enchanting blue number instead. There are plenty to choose from on the High Street. Oasis is always a good place to start for a party dress, and they do a divine one-shoulder ruffle dress which comes to just above the knee, and has a pretty ruffle down one side. This dress combines three trends in one; ruffles, one-shoulder and of course blue!
I have my very own electric blue ruffle dress from Echoo on Coney Street in York (featured in the main picture). Head there for some quirky designs if you want to avoid bumping ito someone wearing the same item as you in Gallery!
Electric Alternatives
If you can’t quite commit to an electrifying dress then head to Miss Selfridge and opt for a pair of flat pumps instead. These could be worn with black jeans or leggings and an oversized t-shirt for ultra style and comfort.
Alternatively, invest in some blue jewellery which will brighten up a winter outfit. Check out this corsage collar necklace with a ribbon tie from Dorothy Perkins for only £7.50 in the sale - perfect to ease you into spring.
Electric blue is a colour-trend to embrace - it couldn't be easier to make it the new blue, and the new colour for you!
