(See what we did there? Like the love child of ‘Got milk’ and ‘You’ve been tangoed’)
Laura Reynolds looks at the hype surrounding the collaboration.
Just a week to go until the man in red arrives...
It is also likely then, as always, that the hot weather won’t last as long as we hope. The Summer, however, is upon us and should be met with a respectful helping of fashion and style!
The delightful plethora of coloured jeans that are taking over the high street are here to help fulfil the need for compromise in a cooler summer climate. Both male and female ranges of jean trousers (in both the heavier and lighter jean material - the lighter often being more stretchy) are available in a range of traditional denim blues and blacks, through to a sandy, worn colour and white in most styles. A wider range of colours is generally available in the skinny jean style (which I must add is also adaptable for the curvier of boys and girls, if you choose a lighter material with less detail around the buttocks. I rely on H&M’s range being a bottom-heavy girl myself).
Remember that no matter what colour you go for - be it baby pink, purple, neon orange, or a slightly washed black (so it has white bits)- the key is to ensure your outfit balances.
If you’re a girl who feels better off accentuating her waist or a guy who wants to widen the look of his shoulders, you can indeed wear skinny jeans well by clever matching on top. Well-fitted shirts and t-shirts with short shoulders work a treat if you haven’t much of a bust, as neither accentuate the arms or the narrowness of the upperquarters. The baseball top or something with a similar neck is good for guys who like to draw attention away from the broadness of their shoulders as the eye is drawn right into the body by detailing such as buttons. If you happen to be a lady with a top-heavy figure, ensuring you don't bare too much flesh on top will help to balance your silhouette so that the eye is drawn to your silhouette as a whole rather than a billowing chest on little legs. If you find yourself somewhere in the middle, then whichever female option you sway towards will probably be fine. A perfect hourglass or slim physique will enable you to get away with either accompaniment to skinny jeans, as long as you are comfortable.
When picking your colour of jeans, if again bottom heavy, maybe opt for a darker colour - perhaps a purple or a dark orange and try to wear lighter colours on top. The opposite goes for slimmer girls and boys who may bulk out their frame from the waist down with a lighter coloured pair of jeans - even a brave white pair! The idea is to wear lighter, freer flowing and more fitted garments in the area you wish to emphasise and opt for what you're most comfortable in!
Personally, I don’t team up converse with skinny jeans unless they are high-tops and the trousers are black. My boot rule - being a bottom-heavy girl - is no coloured skinny trousers with boots because I haven’t much height to me and chopping the length in my leg doesn’t sit very well with my reflection. I wear plimsolls most of the time, with whichever coloured jeans I fancy, or nice little pumps like dolly shoes in the summer when there are fewer puddles about.
My friend, however, is a male with a tall and ‘lean’ figure and suits any sort of skinny trouser, (even the white sort), and doesn’t need to muck about with layering t-shirts and tops. There is no shame in doing so though, or in trying out a new style, and if you haven’t touched it before then try coloured trousers!
Best of all, a nice pair of heels and pair of coloured jeans transform an outfit on a night out and pointy shoes elongate a male’s pair of pins so everyone is ready to hit the dance floor, having broken into their stiff new skinny jeans or not!
