(See what we did there? Like the love child of ‘Got milk’ and ‘You’ve been tangoed’)
Laura Reynolds looks at the hype surrounding the collaboration.
Just a week to go until the man in red arrives...
I took to researching prospective holiday destinations for the summer, while housemate number one, who is a professional procrastinator, went for several workouts at the gym, listened to bangin’ choons and got seriously creative with her facebook statuses. Housemate number two on the other hand, began planning and styling what to wear for the ball we were both going to on the Sunday night, once the essay hell and hermit lifestyle was over. This was an excellent way to boost our morale during our revision based house arrest.
I was so pleased when I walked out into the hall and caught sight of my housemate modelling an outfit she was planning to wear at the weekend. I thought I was the only one in our house who could waste hours and hours trying on clothes and vigorously planning ahead. Clearly not. She was rather embarrassed about being caught mid-afternoon dressed to kill in a stripy dress, heels and raging red lippy. But she needn’t have been so bashful because preparing and planning an outfit is half the fun of going out. If you think and plan before the night then you avoid panic dressing and yelling at everyone on the night.
Housemate two had even more reason to be prematurely planning her outfit as she was going to have lunch with her boyfriend’s parents in the day, then she was going to a gig in a pub in the evening, and finally coming to the after party of the ball. We instantly decided this was a fashion conundrum that even the likes of Gok Wan would struggle to solve. But with the impending deadline approaching for the two essays, fashion had to wait.
Two days passed. The house of essays was no more. Despite the fact that I was beyond tired and had developed a rapid twitch in my right eye, the housemates and I had survived the week without any domestic disasters, breakdowns or physical ailments. After the predictable but deserved night out after handing the essays in (ending up at The Duchess) my housemates and I spent the entire afternoon planning outfits for the ball. This is when living with other girls comes in very handy indeed. Pool all your shoes, bags, accessories, pashminas together in a pile (providing everyone is ok with this!) then start putting an outfit together. I greatly appreciated the advice and items my housemates gave me, as I really wanted to wear my frilly blue dress from Echoo but had no summery clutch to go with it. Luckily, housemate two came up trumps with a gorgeous sequined bag from Accessorize. Perfect. Housemate three also borrowed her peep toe white shoes for the ball, as all her ‘going out shoes’ inflict too much pain and make her rather grumpy.
In an extremely over-the-top girly way I really enjoyed trying on dresses and accessorizing with my housemates. It was fun, useful and fruitful all in all, and saves an expensive last-minute shopping trip. The ‘what to wear?’ fiasco was completely avoided on the night, which meant we saved ourselves time and money by pooling all our gear together. Although, we still kept the taxi driver waiting outside in the end.
