(See what we did there? Like the love child of ‘Got milk’ and ‘You’ve been tangoed’)
Laura Reynolds looks at the hype surrounding the collaboration.
Just a week to go until the man in red arrives...
Fusion 2010 is fully underway. As I write this, the count down on the Fusion website ticks ever closer to the culmination of over 9 months of organisation, endless phone calls and several thousand emails. Central Hall is booked, rehearsals are frantic and the Fusion Committee are living, breathing and talking Fusion.
As one half of the Fashion and Beauty team for this year’s show, it goes without saying that this year will be the best yet. With household names such as Levi’s, T.M Lewin and Gap featuring, and Whistles’, Paul Smith and Jack Wills in the pipeline, we have been working tirelessly to create a performance that will be both visually spectacular and ultimately entertaining.
This year, Fusion has done much to dispel its image on campus as a socially exclusive playpen for the rich and beautiful students. The modelling auditions (always a sticking point) were attended by over 300 students over a four day period, and the resulting cast has been drawn from across the university with the majority entirely new to Fusion. Models were chosen purely on the fact that they fitted the shows specific theme, ‘Twisted Fairytales’ and not on a ‘who you know’ basis.
‘Twisted Fairytales’ is the unique creation of Rose Rea, Fusion’s visionary Creative Director. With a careful selection of popular children’s stories, she has woven an intricate plot that includes all the elements of performance which Fusion has become renowned for. From Juggle Soc to Japanese Soc, the sheer amount of people involved increases daily and amazingly, Rose manages to negotiate every last detail of the performance with an almost unearthly serenity. Together with Cesca Dessain, the President of Fusion, she is fast becoming one half of campus’s most glamorous power couples. However, what sets Fusion apart as a student fashion show is the integral role which ‘dance’ plays.
As Head Choreographers, Jeremy Lilley and Danielle Spears have brought genuine talent to this year’s committee. With unfailing enthusiasm and inspirational dance and modelling routines their contribution to Fusion this year cannot be stressed enough. However, Fusion has not yet been and gone, and I cannot emphasise how much is left to do in such a short space of time. This year’s show will be magnificent, spectacular and above all fabulous. Entirely in aid of charity and student organised, it is an event worthy of your attendance. On behalf of the whole committee we look forward to seeing you in March on either the 5th or 6th at 7.30pm. And most definitely at the afterparty.
don't be silly. Japanese Society and African-Caribbean Society are not performing with Fusion this year.
Don't be silly, I think you'll find they are
