Summer footwear

Bensimon shoes
A very small selection of Bensimon's collection

It’s not always easy finding shoes to take you through summer. Leather sandals give you blisters and plimsolls or ballet pumps worn without socks lead to smelly feet that would rival the strongest camembert out there on a smelliness chart. There are plenty of shoes in various styles though that look good AND feel good. Here’s my pick of the best plimsolls, sandals, flip-flops and espadrilles out there to make finding your perfect summer shoes that much easier.

Best plimsolls

Every French and Belgian girl out there knows that Bensimon tennis shoes are the way to go in summer. These are canvas plimsolls that are available in a wide range of colours (including various Liberty patters) and styles (with laces, elasticated bands or in a ballet pump style). The shoes are machine washable and very affordable at about £25. Although there is no Autour du Monde store (these are Bensimon’s shops) in the UK, the shoes are available online here.

Best sandals

Tan coloured sandals go with most outfits and these Topshop slingback, open-toed ones are my pick of the bunch. The Mexican style beading is gorgeous and being made out of synthetic faux suede, they shouldn’t blister your feet. At £28 a pair, I know what I’m buying this week-end.

Best espadrilles

Wedged, heeled espadrilles can be hard to wear and aren’t for everyone. Flat espadrilles though tend to be unisex (if you go for those in a plain, block colour) and are very easy to wear with a casual outfit. These raspberry red ones for £14.95 are my personal favourites, but lovesespadrilles have so many on offer you’re bound to find the pair for you. If patterned espadrilles are what you’re after though, then head to Topshop.

Best flip-flops

The classic Havaianas win every time for me when it comes to flip-flops. They’re simple, good-quality and very comfortable to wear. They tend to cost around £20 and can easily be ordered online from most online shoe-stores or at flipflopscity. As with the plimsolls and espadrilles, they come in a wide range of colours so finding the pair for you really shouldn’t be hard.
