Luke Walsh was the joint winner of the first HSBC Unipreneurs Award - designed to recognise Britain’s brightest young men and women who are combining their studies with running a successful business with a £20,000 prize.
This week applications came out for The Apprentice - campus' very own answer to both the BBC show, and a chance for students to show their worth and collect some winnings.
That's not the only thing that the two events have in common, both are run from the University's CETL-E Centre, which helps enterprising student companies get the advice and support they need.
York Entrepreneurs are hosting the now annual event over three days in Week 4 which has the backing of corporate sponsor KPMG.
Laura Williams, Chair of York Entrepreneurs said: "This year will take The Apprentice in a different direction from previous year's competitions, and is looking to be the best yet."
9 teams of 3-5 York students have to show judges, and the Committee, that they can negotiate, manage, market and innovate, all in a campus setting.
Williams told The Yorker that it's all worth it: "Taking part shows that not only can you work hard but that you can apply skills in a practical environment."
She added: "This is important for students as it not only gives them experience of competition but also helps them gain important skills that they can use in their careers."
"They'll also see themselves doing things they never thought they would. For third-years who have seen this develop over the years, this is their last chance to be involved."
Tasks last year included having to make the most profit on doughnuts and running a campus event.
The winning team consisted of Ed Durkin, Michael Batula Suraj Gangani and Anne-Sophie Noten, collectively known as 'Team Gravitas.'
Applications close on Sunday Week 2 at Midnight.
Go, Team Yorker!

What a surprise that Mitch is cheering for the yorker team.
Anon #3, are you the same person attacking Mitch on every article? Why wouldn't he support Team Yorker as he's a writer...
Applications are still open until midnight tonight, or at latest 10am tomorrow, as we shall be shortlisting teams for interview.
