50 years after the publication of 'James and the Giant Peach', the works of Roald Dahl continue to celebrate success.
If you've been on campus recently you can't have missed the posters advertising 'Beach Break Live'. But what is it? And where did it begin?
The actual event takes place over 3 days and 3 nights, and is the only student music festival.
The festival is not just about the music - it also also offers wallet-friendly food and drink with surfing lessons thrown in for good measure.
York students are expected to make up 300 of the overall 5000 set to invade Polzeath Beach, Cornwall for the event.
Some of our very own talent will be gracing the stages. York bands include Halifax 1st years, 'Barney R', 'Four Fables' and a mystery act who will be chosen at a 'Battle for the Beach' event.
An event in Week 5 will see York talent battle it out for a chance to play at the festival.
So where did it begin?
Beach Break is only 2 years old, and already it's turned into a huge business.
The original idea was to bring together all the best bits of summer in a student-friendly environment, when this idea was pitched on the BBC2 show, 'Dragons Den' it really took off.
After their pitch, the money and investment flew in from a specialist student travel company, outgoing.co.uk, and a BBC documentary team following the organisers suggests that the event will continue to grow.
The event now has plenty of big name backers, including the BBC, MySpace, UCAS and the Academy of Contemporary Music; as well as an award nomination for Best New Festival in the UK Festival Awards 2007.
Isla Brown said: "I’ve been the event manager for York for two years and this year am working with a great team of reps to spread the word on campus. We started Battle for the Beach last year in York and the managers have now taken it nationwide. Our event in Week 5 is the flagship event for the competition."
"Last year, we all had an amazing time but are looking forward to taking coach loads of our York lot down this year for an even better few days!"
The event is being promoted by various societies and groups on campus. The tickets for 3 days are £79 excluding coach travel of £40.
The Yorker and Beach Break have teamed up to offer you the chance to win 2 free tickets to the event.
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW!!! Is the answer 'Polzeath Beach, Cornwall'? I managed to work it out because it actually says it in the article. It's in the fourth paragraph if anyone wants to check.
Bloody hell, I've seen more taxing competitions on This Morning with Fern and Phil..
Wow Thorn, I always knew you loved Beach Break Live and I know for sure that Mr. Scruff is your favourite.
