50 years after the publication of 'James and the Giant Peach', the works of Roald Dahl continue to celebrate success.
In what is becoming a college tradition, P.O.R.N.O. was the first event to be co-coordinated by the new JCRC. Posters containing mild nudity were used to promote the event, which claims to encourage awareness of safe sex. The JCRC was asked to censor the posters.
Tahir told the Yorker: “I could not be happier that YUSU is attempting to represent all interests on campus and is happy to raise the necessary issues as and when they rise.” YUSU concerns seem not to have affected the event as Tahir seems keen at this early stage to maintain good connections with the student union: “It is thus worthwhile highlighting that we did censor the poster willingly, and we want to be seen as a college that does respond to any welfare concerns if they do arise.”
Tahir is confident that with his enthusiastic JCRC, exciting things will happen in Vanbrugh over the next year, indeed he commented, “I could not be happier to be the Chair at this point.”
As one of the largest and most spread out of colleges on campus, Vanbrugh has struggled in the past to spread college spirit throughout all of its blocks. Tahir states that resolving this is one of his greatest priorities and intends to achieve this by “a plethora of initiatives”. It would seem one of his greatest assets will be his JCRC who have actively gone around blocks advertising events in an attempt to integrate each and every Vanbrugh student.
When asked about the demands of being a college chair, Tahir commented “the first few weeks have been really busy, but I think that is a good thing. It has also been quite a lot of fun seeing different things come to fruition such as our events.”
So it seems Vanbrugh has got off to a strong start and is set for another successful year.
If you want to get more involved, there are still positions available on the JCRC for block representatives, an equipment rep, a disability rep and a +21 rep.
By-elections coming soon.
