50 years after the publication of 'James and the Giant Peach', the works of Roald Dahl continue to celebrate success.
Newly elected college chair Holly Burton is keeping herself very busy making sure that everything runs smoothly. The first event organised by the new committee, Chav D, went very well and, according to an enthusiastic Burton, “everyone seems very committed to their roles so hopefully we'll have no weaknesses at all.” A second event will take place this coming Saturday that will hopefully prove equally popular.
On the subject of the impending changes to accommodation with the new policy of rent banding to be implemented next year, Burton is less confident. “I think the college changing to being catered and ensuring new students are welcomed into the college well will be the biggest challenge I'll face this year.”
For the present, however, all seems well in Derwent. Burton assures us that “I've really enjoyed the first few weeks” and warns the Yorker that Big D is going to be amazing.
Burton FTW
From what I've heard from friends at other unis, catered halls when everyone has the same meal times is a bit annoying cos you lose an amount of freedom, but the general consensus seems to be that it's easier to settle in. You never end up eating alone unless you want to, and don't get frustrated when people nick your cooking stuff.
Freedom of choice FTW
Freedom of choice? student activism needs to grow up a little...
