Love

Saturday, 28th August 2010
People often get confused as to what love really is. To those people I say: if you are confused, then you have never really felt it.

Love does not follow any rules; it can happen at any time, to anyone. It can be passionate, it can be delicate, it can be caring and kind, it can be unrequited and it can be downright mean. It can be between two people who are nothing alike; it can be between two people who have everything in common. Love crosses boundaries.

The thing about love is that no matter what form it takes, it is always the sweetest feeling. Whether that means sitting in your bed at night crying, because you can never have the one person you want; or if it means kissing in the rain, or laughing wildly: not caring for once about how you look, because you know to the other person that you are always beautiful.

The one thing about love though, is that if you feel it you should go with it. Love shouldn’t be about forcing something to happen: it should be easy, take no work. Not at first anyway.

Love can bring out the best and worst in people.

If you’ve known love, then you’ll know that when you are with the one you love, it is the only time you can truly be yourself. You can feel your heart swelling in your chest every time you see the object of your affection. Similarly, you can feel your heart swell with pain if the one you love does not feel the same way.

But do not shy away from pain. If you avoid love just because you’re afraid of getting hurt, well, that is the worst thing you can do. You should hold on to the love, and all the bittersweet pain that comes along with it.

You will regret it more if you do not allow yourself to fall in love.

If you do feel the pain of a broken heart, fear not. Because in this world, there is not only one person who is meant for you to love: there are many. You can't try and seek them out; you can't believe that if you go to the library and hang out in the poetry section, the next guy who walks in and looks at Oscar Wilde is going to be the one you’re destined to be with. Love will find you, when it is ready and right.

And when it does, promise me this: that you will grab hold of it with both hands, take a deep breath and leap.

It is definitely worth it.
