Student Cliche
Thursday, 18th October 2007
Last weekend, a man standing at the bar turned to me and asked me whether I was student. Slightly puzzled, but seeing no reason to hide the fact, I told him I was. To which he replied: "You look like a student" and then walked away.

So there you have it: I appear to be a living, walking, breathing student cliché. On that note, here is a look at what the web has to offer on the subject of students.

Some of the ideas about students seem to be so ingrained in the public psyche that this blogger felt the need to try and dispel some of them. The subjects include alcohol, sex, daytime tv, laziness, hygiene and debt. Sounds familiar?

As hard as you may wish to dispel such clichés, they exist for a reason, as the following video reminds us.

I haven't quite figured out whether the people in charge of the following low-cost/low quality animation are students themselves or not, but the early references to both LOTR and Jerry Springer are spot on.

Animated Comedy: Student Life - Nova Cartoons

As students we have a reputation for living in a different world to the 'real world' and the following video evidence does nothing to dispel the myth:

On a perhaps slightly more serious note, My So Called Student Life is a project by Aimhigher Greater Manchester which consists of video diaries by a variety of students from the area and may dispel some of the myths by highlighting the large variety of people who go to university.

And the point of all this? I don't really know. And I'm too lazy/hungover to come up with one.
